In the past, I have mainly composed research papers that
have been highly structured and formatted. There were many rules that went into
these papers that limited the subjects we could write about. I have learned to
cite my sources in MLA format and make sure they were reliable. This gave
credit to anyone I may have borrowed ideas from. Having learned this, the
papers that I have written have become increasingly well supported and
credible. My teachers have given the topics I have written to me in the past,
so I am excited to come up with ideas on my own. I’m hoping to be able to have
more freedom with my compositions than I have in the past. By gathering
information and writing a paper on a topic that I care about, I believe I will
be able to submit exceptional work. Instead of having to write about specific
topics, I want to write about things that matter to me.
Learning how to express your thought by putting them into
words is a very important part of life. I hope to learn more about creative and
rhetorical writing. Since arguing is a part of our daily life as well, I am
very interest in the strategies needed to strengthen arguments. I have already
learned many new techniques about arguing that I have never realized before.
I have also learned a little bit about writing a resume in
the past. Although I know the basics, I hope to learn in more detail about how
to make a good resume. This is a very important life skill that is especially
important in this stage my life. It will be important in applying and finding a
job.
Overall, I am looking forward to the many things in this
class that can help me learn and enjoy becoming a better writer.
Well-written blog post. It is important to point out the increased credibility and ethos that comes with properly citing one’s sources. I agree that it is extremely important to be able to convey one’s thoughts through writing.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that you are interesting in coming up with your own ideas, Lauren. Lots of students find it easier to work on projects that are mapped out step-by-step, black-and-white, which doesn't help much if you want to learn how to think for yourself. I think you will enjoy this class and the creativity & pragmatism that it offers.
